5036, H-17
If my life in the past two days could be described by a movie scene, it is this:
This particular scene from Forrest Gump (1994) in which Gump and Bubba are scrubbing the floor with toothbrushes with pails of water next to them felt absurdly funny to me when I watched the movie during COVID time.
But this is exactly what I have been doing in 5036, H-17. As soon as I saw the dirt and grime on the floor, this scene came to my mind: it was neither absurd nor funny anymore.
After getting everything cleaned once by the staff, and after shifting our stuff here, I set about cleaning the window sill, door handles, switchboards, table drawers, cupboard, and the edges where the floor meet the wall; they seemed unintroduced to the blessings of the broom, and needed a dose of toothbrush first to get things going.
Initially I was feeling so down in the dumps but the sight of a shikra chasing a squirrel on the rain tree yesterday morning and a sunbird (?) on the window grill today morning brightened me up.
The best thing about being shifted to what used to be a boys hostel is the fact that there is a huge ground right next to the hostel building! By huge I mean not only the size but also the dewy grass, the old trees with creepers beginning to climb on them, the marshes close to the lake (on the other side of the fence). So there are plenty of mynahs, robins, kites and others too. Plus we have a basketball court, a football ground and a park gym. So even if I get fed up of my room, I can go downstairs and have a whale of a time hehe.
